Choosing cabinet materials for your project.
A practical guide to boards, finishes and the details that shape a cabinet. Start with the space, then build a clear specification.
01 Start with the space.
A kitchen cabinet, bedroom wardrobe and office filing unit have different jobs. Before choosing a colour, describe where the furniture will sit, what it will store and how often it will be used. Include nearby plumbing, appliances and any exposure to moisture in your brief.
KLDS offers custom home and office furniture from Linyi, Shandong. Our KD Kitchen Cabinet Set and KD Custom Built-in Wardrobe provide starting points for a discussion about your layout. The final board, surface and hardware combination should be recorded for the specific order.
02 Compare the options.
Separate the core board from the decorative finish. A wood-look surface does not, by itself, tell you what is inside the panel. Ask for both descriptions, the proposed thickness and the treatment of exposed edges.
| Component | What to confirm | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Core board | Board type and thickness | Defines the agreed panel construction |
| Surface finish | Colour, texture and sheen | Sets the appearance under room lighting |
| Edges and fittings | Edge finish and hardware model | Clarifies the visible and moving details |
03 Review a sample.
Use a physical sample when colour and texture are important to the project. View it beside flooring, worktops and wall finishes, in both daylight and the lighting planned for the room. Screen images are useful references, but they cannot establish a final colour match.
A finish should work with the whole room, and the specification should explain what sits behind it.
Ask which sample or reference code will be used for production approval. If your destination requires particular documentation, include that requirement before confirming a material.
04 Share a clear project brief.
Send your room dimensions, cabinet quantities, reference images, preferred finishes and delivery destination. Mark any dimensions that still need site confirmation. This helps the KLDS team identify questions before preparing a proposal.
